Meet Romanian Energy Center
Supporting NEVERFLAT’s Energy Goals
Mihai Mladin
Head of RD&I Department
“By advancing Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies, NEVERFLAT supports a smarter, more resilient, and more sustainable energy transition across Europe. In the digital era, where flexibility and interconnectivity are essential to managing renewable energy sources, NEVERFLAT leverages cutting-edge digital tools to transform electric vehicles into active assets of the energy grid. This integration enhances grid stability, empowers consumers, and accelerates the shift towards decentralised, low-carbon energy systems. Through its title, the project also has a special significance in relation to the challenges of the energy transition, as well as in life in general, NEVER FLAT.”
Meet the Partner: Romanian Energy Center (CRE)
CRE (Romanian Energy Center) is a non-governmental sector association active in electricity, oil and gas, coal, renewables, and energy equipment and services. Established in 2011 with offices in Brussels and Bucharest, CRE’s main goal is to promote the active participation of Romanian state-owned and private energy companies in European partnerships, projects, and policy making. They also support infrastructure investments and the transition to a decarbonised energy system.
CRE has strengthened its R&D and Innovation department with experts in energy, economics, CSR, project management, education, ICT, and European projects. This allows CRE to be involved in many EU-funded initiatives, including H2020, ERASMUS, and Horizon Europe programmes. Currently, CRE manages over 10 ongoing and completed projects, offering expertise in applied energy research and managing work packages on regulatory impact, socio-economic analysis, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, business models, cybersecurity, and more.
Role in the NEVRFLAT project
As CRE explains:
“By advancing Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies, NEVERFLAT supports a smarter, more resilient, and more sustainable energy transition across Europe. In the digital era, where flexibility and interconnectivity are essential to managing renewable energy sources, NEVERFLAT leverages cutting-edge digital tools to transform electric vehicles into active assets of the energy grid. This integration enhances grid stability, empowers consumers, and accelerates the shift towards decentralised, low-carbon energy systems. Through its title, the project also has a special significance in relation to the challenges of the energy transition, as well as in life in general, NEVER FLAT.”
s sub-systems, our goal is to provide accurate testing and data analysis models that enhance system integration insights from both developer and end-user perspectives. This will support the development, testing, and future commercialisation of next-generation charging infrastructure within the NEVERFLAT project and beyond.”
TU Berlin mainly contributes to Work Package 3 (Smart Grid Integration and Digital Infrastructure) and Work Package 4 (System Prototyping and Lab Testing). Their work ensures the system performs well and meets both technical and user needs.
By combining research excellence and practical know-how, TU Berlin helps NEVERFLAT create EV charging solutions that are affordable, reliable, and ready for the future of clean urban transport.
