The NEVERFLAT consortium came together in Berlin, Germany, on 25-26 June 2026 for its fourth General Assembly (GA4), hosted by Hubject. Over two days, project partners reviewed the latest technical progress, coordinated activities across the work packages, and planned the next steps towards integrating the project’s technologies and launching its pilot demonstrations.
The meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to exchange knowledge, monitor progress against project objectives, and ensure that technical developments continue to move forward in a coordinated way.
Reviewing Technical Progress
The first day focused on presentations from the project’s technical work packages. Partners shared updates on the work completed in recent months, highlighted important achievements, and outlined the activities planned for the next reporting period.
Discussions covered all major areas of the project, including smart charging solutions, bidirectional charging, communication protocols, interoperability, digital services, energy management and pilot preparation. Each work package presented its current progress while also identifying technical challenges and the actions needed to achieve the next project milestones.
A major topic throughout the day was the integration of the different technologies being developed by the consortium. Partners examined how hardware, software platforms, communication interfaces and energy management tools are being combined into a unified system capable of supporting reliable and efficient Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) services.
Advancing Smart Charging Technologies
The consortium also reviewed progress on the communication standards that form the foundation of secure and interoperable charging. Discussions included the implementation of OCPP 2.0.1, preparations for future compatibility with OCPP 2.1, and the continued development of ISO 15118-20 functionalities that enable Plug & Charge services.
Partners also shared updates on several other technical developments, including the project’s DC microgrid architecture, DC-DC converter technologies, forecasting tools and the V2G management platform. These components will work together to create an integrated charging ecosystem that supports flexible, user-friendly and intelligent energy management.
Preparing for Real-World Demonstrations
Pilot preparation was another key focus of the meeting. Partners reviewed the progress made at the demonstration sites and discussed the activities required before deployment begins.
The sessions covered equipment procurement, installation planning, testing procedures and validation activities. Partners also worked to ensure that all pilot sites follow a coordinated approach while meeting the specific requirements of their local environments.
This close coordination will help ensure that the technologies developed within NEVERFLAT can be successfully demonstrated under real operating conditions and evaluated consistently across all pilot locations.
Interactive Workshops Encourage Collaboration
The second day was dedicated to interactive workshops that encouraged discussion between partners from different technical disciplines.
Working sessions explored system integration, interoperability, validation planning and pilot coordination in greater detail. Rather than focusing on presentations, the workshops created space for technical discussions, allowing partners to exchange expertise, address implementation challenges and identify practical solutions together.
The workshops also strengthened cooperation between software developers, hardware manufacturers, research organisations and pilot leaders, supporting the continued integration of the project’s technologies into a single, coherent solution.
Looking Ahead
The fourth General Assembly represented another important step forward for the NEVERFLAT project. As development activities continue to progress, the consortium is increasingly concentrating on integrating its technologies, completing pilot preparations and validating the project’s innovative smart charging and Vehicle-to-Grid solutions.
With strong collaboration across all partners and work packages, NEVERFLAT is moving closer to demonstrating affordable, interoperable and flexible charging technologies that will contribute to Europe’s transition towards sustainable electric mobility and a more resilient energy system.
