BEIA at Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2025 – Supporting NEVERFLAT

From 9 to 11 April 2025, BEIA participated in the Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec, held at ROMEXPO in Bucharest, Romania. The fair, organised with the support of Romania’s Ministry of Environment, brought together companies, institutions, and experts working in renewable energy, environmental technologies, and smart city solutions.

At their stand, the BEIA team presented their ongoing work and engaged in discussions with visitors and partners. While they did not deliver a formal presentation of the NEVERFLAT project, the event offered an important opportunity to explain the project’s goals and exchange ideas with stakeholders across the energy and mobility sectors.

What is NEVERFLAT?

NEVERFLAT (iNnovative EV charging EnviRonment for Future Low cost mAss deploymenT) is a Horizon Europe project that started on 1 January 2025 and will run until 30 June 2028. With a total budget of around €7.85 million, of which about €6.75 million is funded by the EU, the project aims to make electric vehicle charging more cost-effective, flexible, and sustainable.

The project’s focus is on developing low-cost, bi-directional smart charging infrastructure that integrates:

  • Machine learning and predictive tools to optimise charging schedules.

  • Wide Bandgap (WBG) semiconductors for more efficient power electronics.

  • Simulation models and digital twins to improve deployment strategies.

These solutions will be tested at pilot sites in Germany, Romania, and Spain to validate performance, scalability, and benefits for both users and the energy grid.

BEIA’s Role in NEVERFLAT

BEIA Grid Institute is one of the 13 partners in the consortium, which includes organisations from seven European countries. The partnership brings together universities, technology providers, utilities, and local authorities to ensure that the project’s solutions are technically robust, socially inclusive, and aligned with real-world requirements.

As a Romanian partner, BEIA contributes expertise in smart energy systems, communication technologies, and integration with local pilots. Their involvement also supports knowledge transfer and collaboration between European and Romanian stakeholders.

Why It Matters

At the Expo, BEIA highlighted the relevance of NEVERFLAT in three key areas:

  • Smarter EV charging – applying AI and predictive analytics for efficient energy use.

  • Energy flexibility – enabling bi-directional charging to support the grid and maximise renewable energy integration.

  • Greener mobility – improving accessibility and affordability of EV charging infrastructure for urban environments.

Although BEIA did not present the project formally, their participation ensured that stakeholders became more aware of the project’s objectives and potential benefits. This type of engagement strengthens collaboration across sectors and helps prepare the ground for the upcoming pilot activities.
